Clarins Double Serum vs Clarins Super Restorative Serum

Clarins Double Serum has an interesting history behind it. In 1985 Clarins founder Jacques Courtin-Clarins created Double Serum. Jacques wanted to create a wonder product that could treat all ageing concerns in just one bottle. The trouble he faced was that some of the ingredients he wanted to include within this serum are oil-soluble and others are water-soluble.

From 1985 up until 1996, Double Serum came in two separate bottles, one with the oil-soluble ingredients and the other the water-soluble ones. However, innovation came through in 1996 and Double Serum became just one simple product. Inside the beautiful bottle, are two chambers which both connect to one pump at the top, mixing the two formulations.

Let's talk about ingredients. Clarins Double Serum contains a huge amount of botanical ingredients. 21 to be exact, but let’s just talk about a few. First up, Turmeric. Turmeric preserves communication between cells. This is essential for maintaining balance within the skin.

Double Serum also contains avocado oil which promotes regeneration of the skin and leaves the skin soft and supple. Oat extract is also included within this serum. Oat extract is a great skincare ingredient due to its firming properties. And finally, Double Serum contains banana extract. Banana extract is known for its collagen and elastin stimulating properties. This cocktail of powerful plant extracts are what make this best-selling serum so popular.

Clarins Super Restorative Serum also contains many botanical ingredients. The most important ones are Harungana extract, Montpellier Rock-Rose extract and Narrow Leaf Plantain extract. Harungana works to redensify the skin and fight against sagging. Montpellier Rock-Rose targets age spots and works to visibly reduce the appearance of them which in turn evens out the skin's complexion. Lastly, Narrow Leaf Plantain. This ingredient targets fat pads within the skin to preserve natural facial contours.

As previously mentioned, Double Serum is targeted towards those who are wanting to fight the signs of ageing and is packed with anti-ageing ingredients that can penetrate through water and oil within the skin. Whilst the Super Restorative Serum is also great for those who are concerned with ageing skin but due to the pigment inhibiting ingredients, it is wonderful for those who suffer with age related pigmentation and those who want their skin to look luminous.

As both of these products are recommended as anti-aging day and/or night serums, one would assume that they look, feel and cost the same. However this is not the case. Double Serum is a fluid consistency and comes in three different sizes; 1 oz, 1.6 oz and 2.5 oz. They each retail at $90, $132 and $175. Whilst the Super Restorative Serum is a creamy consistency and comes in two sizes; 1 oz and 1.7 oz and they retail for $145 and $190. Although both of these products are pricey, Super Restorative Serum is a little more expensive due to the fact that it is a richer texture and offers just a little bit more than Double Serum, due its pigmentation diminishing abilities.
